I’ve been playing fantasy football since back in college 9 years ago. Back when we started playing there weren’t too many online options available where we could host our league online. In fact, the commissioner of our league did all the scoring by hand for the first season (for anyone that has done that - talk about a time consuming job!) But all that has changed now. Everywhere you look on the internet, there are websites offering different levels of quality and services to try to have you hold your league with them. But the one I use and have used for several seasons now is Yahoo! Fantasy Football.
Free Yahoo Fantasy Football
Yahoo offers different levels of participation in their fantasy football offerings. For the casual / non-competitive fantasy player, they offer a free league with some of the basic features required to follow your team. If you sign up for the free league, Yahoo provides you with a pretty extensive list for a free league offering. Some of the better features include:
- Drag and Drop Rosters- This is a new feature with Yahoo Fantasy Sports. The makes it tremendously easier to bench certain players for the week or add new starters who have a good matchup coming up. All you have to do is left click and drag the player around. It’s pretty easy.
- Live or Automatic Draft - I personally like to draft live so I can adjust who I’m going to pick depending on what other team owners do ahead of me. But for those of you that don’t have an hour or more to pick you team, there is also an option to set your draft order before hand and let Yahoo do all the selections for you.
- Trades and Waiver Wire - For anyone that has played fantasy football before, the second most fun (after draft day) is had with trades. Yahoo makes it easy to see the best players available on the waiver wire or compare the players who are involved in a trade. See each players stats side-by-side to make your selection.
Yahoo Fantasy Football Plus
For those players who like to take a little more serious, Yahoo also offers Fantasy Football Plus. With Fantasy Football Plus, you get all the same features of the free league with some added bonuses:
- Co-Manager- Have a friend that you want to split your team with? Well now you can each have your own login to your team to make adjustments as necessary.
- Personalized Fantasy Alerts - Customize your alerts to receive certain information about the players you want to hear about, whether it’s your players or players on the waiver wire or your favorite team.
- Customized League Address - If you’re interested in creating a league that you will come back to each year, Yahoo offers customized league urls to give you the ability to bookmark your league. That way each year, the players in your league will know exactly where to go to get ready for next year’s draft.
- Customize your Scoring - Add bonus points for players where you deem necessary and set it up exactly how you want it to go. The commissioner has the power to make the changes you want here.
- Prizes - Each league winner will receive a championship prize that they get to select. It’s always fun to where your championship shirt to next year’s draft
So that’s my opinion on where you should take your fantasy league this year. Yahoo! Fantasy Football gives you exactly what you’re looking for in a fantasy league. Whether it’s a free league you want to join or a competitive league to do with your friends, you’ll find most of the features you looking for with this service.
