Like I’ve written about numerous time before, I’m always looking to make Things That Are Fun easier to use for anyone that visits.  Now I just wanted to let people know of a new page that has been added that I think is a great addition to the site. 

I recently came across a Sitemap Plugin that will list each of your posts by category on a summary page, so that readers can quickly view the titles of everything you’ve written.  The Sitemap Plugin is very customizable and very easy to use.  This is definitely one I would recommend checking out.  Here’s my Sitemap page, or you can use the menu at the top right of this page to navigate there.  Anyone interested in downloading the plugin can go to Dagon Design’s Page

I have decided to remove the plugin “Comment Relish” from my list of active plugins.  Thanks to a heads up from D at Sciscoop.com, I was directed to a post made by Chris G telling his readers about how Comment Relish is Dangerous.  Since I really don’t feel like having any problems with my database or hosting company right now, I have decided to remove the plugin. 

If anyone out there has a suggestion for a replacement plugin for Comment Relish, please let me know.  Basically what the plugin did, was sent new commentators thank you emails letting them know that I appreciate them visiting the site and gives them a chance to subscribe to the feed.

The reason I started this blog was to write about some of the fun things I have come across and share that experience with others.  Part of my goal also was to enjoy writing the posts and never to stress out about getting the posts out consistently.  Well then I decided to create a posting schedule to help keep the posts consistent, while at the same time letting readers know what to expect on a daily basis.  Sure I might write a few extra posts for the week, but at the minimum I am trying to stick with schedule I set.

Improving Things That Are Fun! has been a constant process since it began almost 3 months ago now.  Part of the decision to switch from Blogger to WordPress was the flexibility the plugins provide, which I wrote about a few days ago.

 Well over the weekend I decided to install three new plugins to improve the site just a little bit more.  These recently installed plugins include Akismet, Comment Relish and Subscribe to Comments.  Here’s a little more detail about each:

With much appreciated feedback, I have redesigned Things That Are Fun! again.  Some of the feedback that I received was that the headers were much to bright and overpowering.  So I changed both the post headers and the section headers to something I believe is not so “in your face”.  I also redesigned the header image since just about nobody liked the previous one I made (with the hamburger “in your face” also).

 So let me know what you think of the new design and please continue to send me suggestions on things I should include or changes that you think need made. 

A short while back I decided to switch Things That Are Fun from Blogger to Wordpress.  Although Blogger was very easy to setup and simple to use, it just did not provide all the tools that I was looking for to get the most out of my blogging experience.  I was looking for tools that I could add to the website that would make production of the site less manual and more reader friendly, and Wordpress Plugins have provided just that. 

 Below are a few of the plugins that I find particularly useful and that are used every day on Things That Are Fun!  Any suggestions about additional plugins that you use would be particularly helpful as I am always looking to make this site better.  So without further ado, here you go:

Things That Are Fun just passed the 100 mark in authority on Technorati.com.  It now has a rank of 52,715, not too bad since it started in the millions.  Hopefully this will be a precursor to a higher pagerank when google comes out with it eventually.  Things That Are Fun was created just after the last PageRank update, so no rank as of yet.
